How we work

Whether we started a company or backed someone else’s, the way we work is the same: take our time, do the work ourselves, and share everything we learn.

What that means

  1. 01

    We’re in no rush

Serelis isn’t a fund. There is no ten-year clock and nobody waiting for us to sell, so we don’t have to make short-term calls with long-term companies.

We build things to keep them, and we only back companies we’d be happy to stick with for a long time.

  2. 02

    We do the work

The people at Serelis write the code, design the product, answer the support emails and close the books.

When we back a founder, that is what we bring: hands on the product, the systems and the numbers.

  3. 03

    We share what we learn

Code, tools, suppliers and hard lessons move freely between the companies. A new company starts with years of groundwork already done.

Each one still stands on its own, with its own name, customers and accounts.

  4. 04

    Built here, for here

Rand payments, POPIA, FICA, FAIS and load-shedding are where we start, not things we patch in later. Our customers are South African first.

02

What we look for in a founder

  • A founder who is close to their customers and still does the work.
  • A real problem people in South Africa already pay to solve.
  • A business that can make money without needing another round to survive.
  • Somewhere our engineering and systems experience makes a real difference.

We invest alongside founders, not instead of them, and keep things simple. If that sounds right, tell us what you’re building.
